Frustrated with the difficulty of finding suppliers who would assist with the planning of our commitment ceremony, we struggled to find resources which assisted the GLBTIQ community. We felt uncomfortable using resources aimed at the traditional wedding market and wanted a resource which understood our issues and needs as a same-sex couple. We wanted to know if suppliers would support and understand our event before we rang them, and needed a way to get in touch with others in the GLBTIQ community for inspiration and advice.
After many hours of discussion with others in the GLBTIQ community we decided that a celebrations website dedicated to providing advice and support to our community was needed. Gay and Lesbian Celebrations was launched in late 2007 and is constantly gaining more friendly suppliers, inspirational stories and members. In 2008 we are planning to introduce more member content such as chat pages and notice boards, and plan to have a magazine version of Gay and Lesbian Celebrations within the next 12 months.
Unfortunately because of the work involved in creating Gay and Lesbian Celebrations we had to postpone our own commitment ceremony. Instead, we have decided to go the whole way and get married in Canada in August 2008. Keep checking back as we will post more information about our journey to 'the big day'!
