A number of countries in the world have approved legislation to recognise same-sex couples and their families. There are also states within countries that legally recognise same-sex marriage.
Canada, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and some states of the United States of America provide rights and recognition to same-sex couples.
